Artist Statement

Photography has been a passion of mine since I was nine years old when I received my first camera. I studied photography in university along with art education aiming to continue my photographic art and teach what I know and love. My Master of Arts in Art Education thesis centered on research in photography history to find examples of prominent women photographers and their value and presence in the medium.

My personal work emphasizes location, environmental portraiture and landscape photography.  My recent travels have taken me to Indo China, South East Asia and Australia. My next trip will be to Nepal and Tibet in spring 2010. My favorite thing about traveling is that I get to take photos!  It is on these adventures that I get to experience other cultures and look for the extraordinary in their everyday lives.  A common theme is my fascination and capture of religion, places of worship and religious iconography.  A parallel theme is how nature is juxtaposed and often integrated with faiths in our world.

Through my travels and photos I express the presence of faith found and celebrated in powerful landscapes.
